JW Racing is one of the hottest father-son truck race teams on the asphalt tracks in Southern California. This award winning team is not your typical Saturday night racing bunch. Precision tuning and exact measurements by its dedicated crew keep the 28 truck ahead of the pack every race day. A clean looking uniform, full-size autographed truck photos and a great sense of humor make this team fun to be around on race day.
History
Jeff Williams and his father, Vern Williams, started out as a drag racing team when Jeff was in high school in Midland, Texas and continued drag racing after a move to California. Taking home two track championships and many race wins, this father son duo raced the 10-second ’67 Mustang for about 10 years.
Since 2000, JW Racing has successfully proven that racing runs through Jeff William’s blood. With fast times and consistent clean racing, the 28 SouthWest Tour Truck team is respected by the other drivers and have a great time at every track they visit each year.
In 2000 Jeff finished his first season 10th overall out of 35 registered drivers. He received the Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Driver awards. Jeff started out his circle track career finishing mid-pack and by the end of the first season Jeff earned 4-top five finishes. Two fourth-place and two second-place finishes in the latter half of the season. Jeff proved he was the real deal.
Mission Statement
The JW Racing mission is to run a clean race, place in the top 5 and to make a good show for the fans at all race tracks.
Results
Since 2000, JW Racing has always finished in the top 10 in championship points. Consistent finishes brings this team higher every year. Racing incidents occur and that is part of racing. You cannot always win. But in 2006, 2007 and 2008 JW Racing claimed the West Coast Pro Truck Championship and the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale Speedway WCPT Division Championship in 06 and 07. With 18 wins and 46 top 5 over the last 4 seasons, Jeff knows how to drive his truck in any racing condition. Jeff also holds the SWTT track records at the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, Altamont Raceway & The Speedway at Willowsprings.
Community
All the work done on the race truck is done right at home. Vern has modified his garage to allow for the extra room needed for all of the parts and tools required to maintain a championship race vehicle. Jeff, Vern and the crew spend their weekends and nights off to wrench on the truck before and after each race. Members of the community stop by to check out the progress of the racing season and share some stories.
Finances
JW Racing is kept alive mostly from Vern’s wallet, but sponsors are a necessity to every team. Several companies have come and gone. Big Tex trailers provided two different trailers, which were greatly appreciated. Other sponsors include Farrar Grinding, Day Motor Sports, and West Coast Racing Converters. Spectre Performance started sponsorship 2006.
Future Plans
JW Racing plans on continuing racing in the SouthWest Tour Truck series in 2009. A possible Camping World NASCAR Truck ride is on the table for this 2009 season. Jeff possesses the necessary talent.
